Susan Schroder is an extremely talented fantasy artist who blends painting, illustration, photography and digital manipulation so well, that it is sometimes had to tell where one leaves off and the other begins....
We have gotten permission to feature some of her artwork here on Renacopia and we are going to do so every Wednesday evening for the next few weeks.
Additionally, I should mention that Susan has a new book that she just released and it is terrific! "Circle the Sun" would make a terrific holiday gift...

Perth Pewter carries several oil lamps, here's a Stonehenge version. With the popularity of the Outlander series and the "stone circle" I thought this would be a fun one to highlight. The picture below shows it as an oil lamp or incense burner. Check out more on their website and on Facebook.

During our recent trip to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, we had the pleasure of meeting Peter Stachowiak, the owner of Perth Pewter. It was a gorgeous autumn day and the shop was bustling with customers, but Peter was kind enough to spend some time with us talking about Perth Pewter.
A while back, we had done a shopping post about Perth Pewter, and while I was reading about Peter, I was really touched by what initially got him interested in casting. We talked about that a bit when we met.
"When I was five I used to watch my father make lead sinkers for his fishing. While he was doing that, he'd make me lead soldiers. That started me learning how to cast and started my collection."
I grew up with a "fishing father", in fact, on my first fishing trip at the age of four, I caught a whopping six sunfish...I still have the pictures and the memories, so I can completely relate to Peter's childhood moments having such a big impact...we all can. Peter's childhood experience led him on a path to learn and continue the art of mold-making and hand-casting pewter figurines.
Peter runs the business with his apprentice son, Dann. He also has made it his mission to keep the art of hand-casting alive here in the United States. He regularly takes on an apprentice to train and then continue on with setting up their own business. Their home-base is in the Catskills of New York, but they travel to shows frequently and have a permanent shop at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. In fact, next season, he will be expanding his shop to include on-site casting with an interactive set-up for children. The kids will be able to choose their own piece and have it cast right before their very eyes!! It seems to be coming full circle, maybe Peter will spark another young child's interest, as his was.
We are looking forward to seeing Peter and Dann next year, maybe I'll pick something to be cast in person. You can see their extensive inventory on the Perth Pewter website and on Facebook.
